DDHS SUN Community School
What is SUN:
SUN stands for Schools Uniting Neighborhoods.
It’s a community schools initiative that operates in partnership with local school districts, counties, cities, and community-based organizations. The SUN program’s goal is to turn schools into community hubs that support students, families, and the surrounding neighborhood beyond the regular school day.

Here’s what DDHS SUN Schools offer:
• Academic support: Homework help, tutoring, and enrichment programs.
• Recreation and enrichment: Clubs, sports, arts, and leadership activities.
• Family engagement: Workshops, classes, and events for parents and caregivers.
• Social services connection: Access to food, housing, and other essential resources.
SUN School Program Goals
• Improve student outcomes: Enhance academic achievement, attendance, behavior, and other essential skills that support healthy development and long-term success.
• Strengthen family engagement: Increase parent and family involvement in student learning and school activities.
• Build community partnerships: Expand collaboration with community organizations, local businesses, and volunteers to support student growth.
• Foster agency collaboration: Strengthen coordination among school districts, government agencies, and community-based organizations.
